Atlanta SurgiCenter has been the forerunner in offering abortion and other reproductive health services to women in the Southeast for thirty years. Although we are widely known for our Second Trimester Termination program, many agencies are not aware that our Fetal Anomalies Program has been in place for several years.

Responding to the increasing demands to expand and specialize this program, we have revised our protocols and conducted extensive training for the counselors and other personnel who may deal directly with women who are forced to re-evaluate continuing a once-planned and anticipated pregnancy. While our philosophy is to empathetically support all women in their decision, we recognize the special needs of these patients and feel it is imperative that they are managed in the most responsive and caring atmosphere possible.

With this in mind, the following additional steps have been developed:

• Additional training for counseling staff
• In-services from local genetic counseling centers
• Priority scheduling arrangements
• Private counseling for patient and partner
• Retrieval of fetal tissue for further genetic testing*

*Fetal tissue retrieval arrangements must be made in advance with a Genetics lab. Your private physician will make these arrangements for you.
